Year in Review: 2013

After the beast that was 2012, A.D.2013 turned out to be a much fairer mistress. Sure, there were quite a few downs, but few were near as harsh as the last few years prior. New job, good friends, and a new life with my wife, Sarah. Those things alone help make a mediocre year great. So thank you, 2013. You're the first year in a long time that I'll actually miss.

End-of-Year Wishlist - 2014 Edition

So, I dropped the ball on this, last year, and the year before, only 3 of my predictions came true, but that's not gonna stop me from making my predictions for 2014!

I'm not gonna guess too much on this line regarding Gundam Build Fighters, since all the main ones -sans the Zaku Amazing- have already been announced, so I'll be focusing on other series.

RX-0[N] Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn
"One more chance to milk the Unicorn mold," you say? Despite mislead rumors of seeing it at the Gunpla Expo late last month, I don't doubt its probability for a 2014 release. Especially with the final episode of Unicorn right around the corner.

RGM-96X Jesta Cannon
Also another easy-out, since it's largely the same, just with added armor and weapons.
The better question is; will it be a dreaded P-Bandai Exclusive? In any case, a welcome addition, to be sure.

GX-0099-DX Gundam Double X
I might be a bit premature in this one, but seeing how fast they churned out the GAT-X series of Gundams (but how slow they were with the XXXG ones), it's moderately reasonable that we might at least see wind of a Double X MG by 2014's end. Here's hoping against plating on that one, too.

NZ-666 Kshatriya
I know there'd been a lot of talk in the past about the improbability of this one, but I still think they can find a way, especially with the recent switchover to lighter plastic. And now, with two other variant designs, it's perfect fodder for more Online Exclusives.

XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero Ver.EW (Remake)
They did so with the Aile Strike Ver.RM, despite almost no need to. And the Proto Zero's frame is possible to house a slightly bulkier "W-Gundam Zero Custom," this would be a good way to kick off the eventual (sometime this century) releases of the rest of the G-Boys' upgraded units.

MS-06S Char's Zaku II Ver.3.0
It's inevitable, really. When an RX-78-2 kit comes out, this Zaku's always right behind it.

I'd like to comment on the possibility of the AGE-3 and AGE-FX's releases, but the fact that a whole year after their prototype's reveal and nothing further from them, it might be safe to say they've been indefinitely shelved. I -for what it's worth- kinda liked the AGE-FX's design, and would have like to have seen that one come to fruition. It's still possible, but I'm not betting on it...

Next up:

(Including FC/AC/AW/CC/CE/Whatever else can be tacked on, here)

Once again, Build Fighters seems to steadily be trickling out almost every unique design that's graced it's scenes, so I'll let that series be.

RX-160 Byarlant
With the announcements of the Döven Wolf and Dreissen getting their original ZZ iterations next year, I would like to hope for a faithful Zeta release of this guy in the second half of next year. Also, those two lead me to another hopeful release, as well...

FA-010S Full Armor ZZ Gundam
Since the regular release 3 years ago, now, it's been largely hinted that this would be made. With obvious gate-switches and the general popularity, the fact it's gone this long's kinda been unnerving. But with the aforementioned Döven Wolf and Dreissen coming next year, it seems the ol' Double Zeta's finally getting some recognition - no doubt thanks to DAISUKI.net's streaming of the series.

NZ-666 Kshatriya Besserung
This one screams "P-Bandai Exclusive!" However, there's always the chance of the necessary parts being thrown into the Kshatriya Repair's package. In which case, I will buy two. XD

The mysterious top secret machine being built in the depths of the Rewloola, Frontal's final MS/MA that's being so sefe-guarded is a surefire marketing strategy... Assuming the thing's not so big it's impractical to gunpla. (Yes, I used that word as a verb, now ^_^;;)

Any of the XXXG Gundams
The recent ALL GUNDAM PROJECT has pretty much assured that every series will be covered, now, and the HGAC line being launched at the forefront shows Wing's precedence to Bandai. So, it's only a matter of time before we see the rest of the Gundams announced.

XM-X1 Crossbone Gundam X-1
This one and my next, while kinda long-shots, are also quite likely, at some point or another. The AGP released the F91, which allowed the easy variant of the Harrison Martin F91... Which is from Crossbone. Hell, it's even got the X-1 on the box! (No logo, though, which is kinda odd...)

RX-105 Xi Gundam
Ooooh, This is definitely a long-shot entry, but my, how I long for this as a legit kit (since it did get an SD just last month). It would be the tallest Gundam (Not counting the Dendrobium or Psycho Gundams) in the line, and would be impressive to stand alongside the rest of the suits. It's novel-only status is it's only possible setback...

JDG-00X Devil Gundam
The one carry-over from my 2012 list, but still a valid one, I feel. It's massive, but not "mobile armor" big, so I could see it getting one of them $60 boxes. Unfortunately, it's poor showing in Build Fighters might ave caused a bit of a stir against this one. :\

I have a million for the HGUC line, but they seem a lot less likely (I still really want a Quin Mantha/Queen Mansa, but I'm sure that's asking a bit much). So, I'll follow up, now with...

A line I've not kept a large interest in, but I feel like it'd be a bit biased to discount it on just my opinion of the line.

RX-78GP02A Gundam GP02A Physalis
Seeing the line's trend of going with a protagonist/antagonist release method, this is an obvious choice.
I would be curious to see how they would make the shield work, much less the thruster binders and bazooka.

RX-78GP03S Gundam GP03 Stamen
Another obvious choice to follow up the line. I'd be curious as to how they would execute some of the gimmicks, such as the claw arms, whether or not they'd do the Core Fighter, and it's compatibility with the Dendrobium HG...

Any of those teased earlier this/last year are really all I have to go on, with Strike Freedom being the latest and Gundam Exia announced, it's clear they've finally lost the grouped release scheduling they had been going with. For all it's worth, I like the technology in this line, but it's absurdly difficult to predict what they have in mind for it's future.

Sadly, with no new Perfect Grade kits in almost 4 years, now, it's likely that the P-Bandai Blue Frame Astray is the last entry in the line. It's been a good run, but it's hard to not gamble with a line where any suit, popular or otherwise, is gonna cost around $200. The MG's are doing a good job trying to fill its shoes in detail and articulation, though, finally.

That's all I got, folks! I'm really hoping this is a bit more accurate than my 2012, but I also hope for some more good surprises, as well! There's a whole lot more they can do, with all the new projects and series coming along, and even the possibility of yet a new line, we could be looking at a real hayday from Bandai, this coming year. I hope they meet all of your ambitions as much as I hope they meet mine! Until next time!

I HAVE RETUR-- Hey, where'd everyone go...?

Okay, everyone! Been a long time coming, but I can finally get everything back to speed (well, sorta, anyway ^_^;;) It's been a crazy last couple months, but the fact that it's all over and I can now sigh with relief that I am now a married man is all the reward I need... But, plastic crack can help, too. XD

Last I left you guys, I had a good lot done on my MG Full Armor Unicorn Gundam, and was finishing up the weapons. Well, that's long done, and is ready to intimidate the room with it's over-armed presence.

T'was a tedious and overwhelming project, but I love the final look of this thing, and even high atop a shelf, it's an eye-catcher!

The decal hell this provided was a great test for my patience and really enjoyed the whole process of the build.

Now that that's done, I've acquired a couple more kits and finished them in good time, too!

The second was a a prize I had won from Daisuki.net's Second Promotional Giveaway, from which I won the RG 1/144 Zeta Gundam!

Despite my gripes about the RG series (which still hold after this build), I did enjoy this one, because the engineering in this kit is absolutely amazing! I swear, if they do decide to MG 3.0 Zeta based on this design, I may not be able to say "no"...

The next obtainment came as a gift from a friend of mine, and was one I had been wanting since its announcement back in August: The HGAC 1/144 Wing Gundam!

Just from the build, you can sense the whole new feeling of "compatibility" they're aiming for with future HGUC releases. I still have yet to determine if this is a good  thing or a bad thing, but as the front-runner to All Gundam Project, it's stood its ground very well! Wing, being what brought me into the Gundam fold, always had a special place in my heart, so I look forward to the expansion of the HGAC line.

Moving right along, I also decided to pick up another new-release kit I saw at my local HobbyTown USA that was screaming "must have!" The HG-SEED 1/144 Gundam Astray Gold Frame Amatsu Mina.

I LOVED this design! Granted, I'm very partial to the Astrays, but can you really blame me!
(Fun fact: I picked this kit up on my wedding day XD)

Between these kits, I've also finished the 2 BB Senshi kits I had gotten back at ACEN earlier this year, the Unicorn Gundam and Sinanju.

Both of these provided interesting challenges, but nonetheless, were fun to do. My wife (at-the-time fiance) did the original build for these and I just did the painting, detailing and cleanup, but she still did an excellent job, and I'm getting her some newer SD kits down the line to fuel the burning fire of Gunpla!

And while that's all I've built, now, I've obtained two more larger projects.

The first came after some finally getting some excess money, and another MG that was almost obligatory when announced...

Ooooh, the ambitions I have for this one. I also have the Expansion Set on the way for it, but have hit some snags in it's delivery. :\

The final kit in my queue is one that no one expected, but was a pleasant and wanted sight. And my obtainment of it also reflected this.

Sent as a present from a circle of Gunpla friends I reside with elsewhere in the interwebz, the MG 1/100 Wing Gundam Proto Zero Ver.EW was acquired, and as you can see from her face, will be the downfall of my new marriage. XD (Not really, she was just as happy!)

That's all for my Gunpla catch-up post, and hopefully, I won't have to do one of these again. I do have some figures I've also gotten, but will post those separately later.
After the holidays pass, I have a few kits who's reviews are being written, but I'll probably roll all of them out in the new years, so I can have a clean slate of time to work with.

So, ja-ne! Until next time, kids!!

Soon, Guys, Soon...

Needless to say, I've let things slip, here, again. But I think I at least have a much more valid reason, this time, than I normally do... ^__^;;

Sometime November/December, I'll be trying to get you guys caught up on my builds and collections, and hopefully make this site worth browsing again. Since my last post, I have completed 4 Gundam kits, so I've got a good amount to give you when I can!

I will be updating my lists (as always, at the top), and I look forward to giving those loyal few readers something to validate your patience with me, and hope you'll be just a little more...

A WIP update!?!?!

Yes, it's been a while since I actually posted anything Gunpla related. And I apologize. What I'm even more sorry for, though, is how long this thing's been on the back burner...
Yes, I believe it was back in January when I last posted anything regarding this poor kit. What's even sadder is that it wasn't just the updates, but the actual progress itself actually halted right around then, as well...

So, what has become of our Psycho-framed decal-hell-laden kit...?

Another "FINALLY"!

Well, right now, we're still sitting in backlog phase on here, but I'm in the midst of rearranging my entire setup, as well as many other RL issues that have taken priority.
(To be honest, I'm not even sure how many of my regular readers still read this... :\)
Anyway, I've got a couple more items I'd been waiting for since I pre-ordered them back in February.

S.H.Figuarts Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Green Ranger and Red Ranger

These are my first ever Figuarts, and I must say, even with my high expectations, I was still quite impressed with the overall quality and intricacies of these figures! And while these ones do lack the Powerful Ranger accessories from season two of Akibaranger that the Japanese Zyuranger versions include, they're still more than enough for me, as my fondest memory lies with the North American Power Rangers.

It's amazing how quickly I became 7 again after opening these. ^__^

I also managed to get the display bases that were originally SDCC exclusive second-hand without a ridiculous markup!

No favoritism here, at all...

I definitely plan on getting the rest of the MMPR group, which are coming out at the speed of lightning, so I'm hoping I can afford them all in their first run...

I'm not gonna promise any reviews anytime soon (considering I've been awful on delivering, lately, anyway), but I do have a couple more things over the next few months that I will be acquiring, so keep an eye out for those!

Until then, all two of you!

Fallen behind again, it seems...

Wow! Been a bit, again, hasn't it? ^__^;; Sadly, the lack of productivity hasn't been met much in way of getting more Gunpla (or even figures, for that matter).

However, I had obtained a few things during Anime Central 2013 in Chicago, which was back in May.
I had one thing in mind while there, and the con did not disappoint in my means of obtaining it...

The elusive D-Arts Mewtwo - which I missed the pre-orders for - was my priority, solely for the exclusive Mew that was only available for the first printing! For $50, this was almost a steal, seeing as it goes for $80, easily!!!

I also picked up a couple BB Senshi kits, Unicorn Gundam and Sinanju, courtesy of the Bluefin/Tamashii Nations booth. Great prices, but they could have planned their floor space better.
(Sidenote: I have social phobias in conjunction with claustrophobia, and large gatherings like conventions exploit those flaws @__@)

In actual building news, I did finally finish ONE of my MG's obtained this year.

My MG 1/100 Tallgeese II is finally complete!
I chose to go without decals for this, as I like the simple elegance of it's base look!

I have a couple pre-ordered items that will be releasing in the next couple months, so if nothing else, I guess expect updates on those when they arrive. Not sure when I'll get around to doing any further reviews, but when I do, you'll be the first know. ^__^;;

No rest for the weary...

As you recall in my last post not even a week ago (Audible gasp!), I had gotten the HGUC Unicorn Gundam Banshee Norn. I completed it in about 2 days, which, sadly, isn't record for me. XD

But, as fate would have it, I can't finish one without something showing up to take its place...

Yes, indeed, I wasn't even gonna let this one slip away from me! The P-Bandai Hobby Online exclusive MG OZ-00MS2 Tallgeese II was -while irritating in its release method- a must-have for the old guilty-pleasured Wing fan I am. ^___^;;

But, ONCE AGAIN, I'm working diligently on this kit (seriously, the kind of work I was putting into my MG Sandrock before unspeakable horrors came upon it...), when a knock doth occur on my door.
I thought to myself, "This BETTER be importa-- ... Oh!"

My copy of the first volume of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin by Vertical, Inc. showed up!!
My GOD, how I'd been waiting for this, and it doesn't disappoint at all!

As one of only two things Gundam still being released stateside, I highly recommend picking these up. Though, they're only doing limited prints, so get yours fast!!! (I've created a pre-order tab for the latest posting on the right-hand bar)
Or, just get it because they've done a fantastic job at not only picking up a title that VIZ dropped almost 10 years ago, but surpassing them in both quality (Nice glossy pages and top-shelf color printing on the color pages) and price (The first Vertical release contains 8 large chapters, which VIZ released over 4 books at about $10 a pop)!

I'm giving such an orchestrated shoutout to Vertical, Inc. just because this can be their breakthrough title and I feel they can go far with this level of quality. Good show, you guys, and I look forward to the future releases!

Anyway, my Tallgeese II is only a quick test-fit assembly, until I can acquire some good spray paints for this guy. Spring is finally starting to show itself, it seems...

Some Catching Up to Do

Sorry about the inactivity here (and especially on my practically abandoned RPGags page), but things have really decided to get busy real sudden-like. I've opened up art commissions on my facebook page and got hit pretty hard, so a lot of my free time had been used on keeping up on those. I'm about to close them again, so if you want anything and you're on facebook, now's the time to message me!

Anyway, on the flipside, these commissions have been helping me with quite a few items to backlog my collections with.

I got another HGUC I'd been wanting to get since it was announced, even if it is an odd-duck-out MS.

Yes, I actually - and happily - picked up the HGUC Juaggu [Unicorn Ver.]. What can I say, I have an unconditional love for Zeon mobile suits. Though I greatly look forward to the future release of the HGUC Zogok...

Also, I ordered the new up-to-date Mobile Suit Illustrated 2013 [+Drawing] MS Encyclopedia. This way, I'll have almost all the references I'll need for future Gunpla purchases, as this covers everything up to all of AGE and through episode 5 of Unicorn (and the addition of the Jesta Cannon from 6).

The next item was a long-awaited release, for, me, being the hardcore Mega Man fan I am...

The D-Arts Mega Man was a must-have, seeing that not only is it classic Mega man in scale with the other D-Arts figures, but also includes Rush and the elusive Metall!? SOLD!

Of course, everyone should have expected this, since I'd been advertizing it on the side of my page since the pre-orders went up! Yes, Gundam Unicorn episode 6 is now in my hands, and was another beautiful entry to the series. Another year until the finale, but given the supurb quality of the series thus far, I have faith in the time they're putting into them.

And, with Episode 6, I had to order one of the suits introduced in it's scenes...

Even if it's appearance was brief, the RX-0[N] Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn's screentime was impressive. I just got this in today, and needless to say, my next order will be for the HGUC Full Armor Unicorn Gundam [Unicorn Mode]...

Well, that's all I got, for now, but I have some photos taken for a few items I plan to review once I get the time to sit down and really write them out.

Until then!
